We currently live in a time that is all about power. It seems as if individual people and groups are constantly vying for power; they want to re-emphasize their power role in society. In fact, these individuals and groups are fighting for one thing: more power.
· More power in the legislature.
· More power in the school system.
· And even more power within society.
There are many reasons they are fighting for more power, (which could lead to many other blog posts), but today the very fact that they are fighting for something is the catalyst for these questions:
What are you fighting for as a Christian?
Is it also for more power?
If so, what will you do with more power as a Christian?
Power according to the scriptures:
The gospel of Luke 9:1-2 states, “When Jesus had called the twelve together, he gave them POWER and authority to drive out all demons and to cure diseases, and he sent them out to preach the kingdom of God and to heal the sick.”
This scripture gives three specific reasons for this power.
1. To drive out demons.
2. To cure diseases.
3. To preach the kingdom of God.
Now, if we take a look at Acts 10:38, we can see that Jesus was also endued with the same power: “God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the HOLY SPIRIT and POWER, and he went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with him.”
What we can learn from these two scriptures is that God is willing and able to give us power. Furthermore, the power that God gives comes “Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, says the Lord” Zec. 4:6.
Power for us!
Brothers and sisters, do we want more of God’s power? It comes through God’s Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit will empower you to do great and mighty things. He will give you strength to overcome temptation and give you power over the tempter.
Sadly, however, there are too many Christians that are struggling in their faith walk because they are not tapping into the power God freely offers through His Holy Spirit. They are struggling with secret sins and addictions. Maybe you are also struggling. So, can I encourage you? Victory is possible, but it is only available if we are Empowered by the Holy Spirit. Jesus makes this promise to us as believers: Acts 1:8 NIV, “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you.”
Fathers and mothers, would you like more power in your family when it comes to raising your children?
Teens, would you like to be victorious in power over the temptations that come your way every day?
Ministry worker, would you like there to be a powerful move of God in your ministry?
The answer lies in the Holy Spirit! We need to tap into the power of the Holy Spirit in order to have victory. The Holy Spirit is a gentleman. The Holy Spirit will not possess you like a demon. No! The Holy Spirit will dwell with your spirit if you invite the presence of the Holy Spirit in.
· The Lord reminds us that he dwells in the praises of his people – so let’s worship him.
· 1 John 5:14 states, “If we ask anything according to His will, he hears us.” So, let’s ask Him.
Let’s not expect the Holy Spirit to just take over our life, just because, we have to invite the Holy Spirit in.
And when we do so, we will walk in the same power of Jesus and the Apostles, and mighty works, signs, and wonders will take place through us.
We will drive out demons!
We will cure diseases!
We will preach the kingdom of God!
…But only as we are empowered by the Power of the Holy Spirit.
